BlockBeats reported on July 28th that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin published a new article introducing the novel cryptographic obfuscation technology, Diamond iO. This technology aims to address the extremely low efficiency of traditional indistinguishable obfuscation schemes, enabling programs to run while hiding internal logic and critical data. While traditional iO technology offers strong privacy protection, its operational costs are so high that it is almost impractical. Diamond iO, by employing more radical new cryptographic assumptions, improves computational efficiency from "cosmic-level time consumption" to "planetary-level time consumption," bringing it closer to practical application.

Diamond iO is built upon technologies such as Attribute Encryption (ABE) and Fully Homomorphic Encryption (FHE). By encrypting programs, users can execute the encrypted program and obtain the correct output, but cannot view its internal code or hide the key. This scheme introduces new input encoding mechanisms and conditional decryption methods, reducing computational complexity while ensuring program logic concealment. Its core application scenarios include protecting programs containing private keys, implementing secure software authorization, building trustless cryptographic services, and supporting blockchain and artificial intelligence systems with stronger privacy protection.

However, Diamond iO is still in the early stages of research, and its security relies on novel cryptographic assumptions, including All-Product LWE and Evasive LWE, requiring further research and verification. At the same time, the technology still faces efficiency challenges such as high computational overhead and circuit depth limitations. Researchers believe that by optimizing the underlying hash function, improving homomorphic encryption schemes, and reducing security parameter requirements, Diamond iO has the potential to become an important direction driving the development of practical program obfuscation technologies in the future.
