Daniel Larimer graduated from Virginia Tech in 2003 with a BACHELOR's degree in computer science. He had always dreamed of a free market solution that would guarantee life, liberty and property. He found that to do that, he had to start with free money. He started trying to develop a digital currency in 2009, and that's when he discovered Bitcoin, so he immediately got involved and actively promoted it. Back in July 2010, Dan pointed out that bitcoin's 10-minute transaction confirmation time was too long, and that changing the consensus mechanism would allow for faster confirmation times.
