Bitcoin volatility alert sounded: BVIV approaches key support zone, potentially facing a "volatile storm".
Odaily Planet Daily reports that market analysts are warning traders to closely monitor a potential "volatility storm" in Bitcoin, characterized by a rapid surge in volatility that is often accompanied by price declines. This warning is primarily based on the movement of the Bitcoin 30-day implied volatility index (BVIV). BVIV is often considered the crypto market's version of the "fear index" (VIX), and its changes are influenced by options demand. Options, as derivatives used by investors to hedge against sharp market fluctuations, typically see higher implied volatility with higher demand, and vice versa. Currently, BVIV is hovering between 34% and 38%. Historical data shows that this area has repeatedly been a key level before volatility spikes, often followed by Bitcoin price corrections. For example, BVIV entered a similar range at the end of May this year, and subsequently, the price of Bitcoin fell from $74,000 to below $60,000 in less than a week, while BVIV showed a significant increase. Similar trends also occurred before the market crash in early February this year, and during the correction phase after Bitcoin reached its all-time high last October. While historical trends cannot guarantee future repetition, the market generally believes that volatility exhibits mean reversion. Typically, periods of low volatility are followed by periods of increased volatility, while periods of high volatility may gradually stabilize. The BVIV remains below its 30-day and 200-day simple moving averages, indicating that current market volatility costs are relatively low and close to historical support levels. This may foreshadow an impending rebound in volatility, potentially ushering in a new round of market fluctuations. As of now, the price of Bitcoin remains above $64,000, consolidating sideways since last Wednesday. Although some analysts point out that Bitcoin spot ETFs have seen net inflows for two consecutive weeks, the current inflow is relatively limited compared to the billions of dollars withdrawn during the previous eight consecutive weeks of outflows. Traditional market volatility indicators are currently sending different signals. The South Korean KOSPI VIX is currently above 70%, the highest level since the 1990s; the US stock market fear index VIX rose more than 12% last Friday, reaching around 18%, and has remained near that level. Both WTI and Brent crude oil prices continued to decline, with intraday losses exceeding 2%.
According to BlockBeats, on July 20, Bitget data showed that both WTI and Brent crude oil prices continued to decline. Brent crude oil fell below $85 per barrel, down more than 2% on the day; WTI crude oil fell more than $2 on the day, currently trading at $80.29 per barrel, a drop of 2.5%.
The joint testing of stablecoins in South Korea's credit card industry will end at the end of July, prompting card companies to shift towards differentiated competition.
According to Odaily Planet Daily, the joint proof-of-concept (PoC) test conducted by the South Korean credit card industry around the Korean won stablecoin will conclude at the end of July, with no plans to establish a new working group. This test focused on verifying the Korean won stablecoin's payment capabilities in scenarios such as QR codes and POS terminals, as well as the feasibility of converting regional currencies, vouchers, and credit card points into stablecoins. In the payment sector, each card company will independently advance related businesses according to its own strategies: 1. Shinhan Card and KB Kookmin Card have both integrated with the Solana network; 2. BC Card has completed payment tests for foreigners holding stablecoins at South Korean merchants; 3. Woori Card plans to integrate stablecoin payment functionality into its WON Card app; 4. Samsung Card has chosen a capital cooperation path, jointly investing 612.8 billion won with Samsung Securities and Samsung SDS to acquire a 4% stake in Upbit's parent company, Dunamu, exploring the introduction of digital asset payment functionality into the financial platform "Monimo". The US-Iran conflict has entered a phase of fighting while negotiations continue; Israel remains restrained but faces the risk of intervention.
According to BlockBeats, on July 20, the United States and Iran maintained a fragile balance between military action and diplomatic negotiations, with neither side crossing the other's core red lines. Analysts believe that although Israel has not yet directly intervened in the conflict, it could still launch renewed military action against Iran's nuclear facilities and missile capabilities should the situation escalate.
The report states that Israel's "Roaring Lion" operation against Iran was temporarily halted after the US and Iran reached a 14-point framework agreement, which created conditions for 60 days of negotiations between the two sides with the goal of promoting a long-term solution.
Currently, the United States continues to strike targets within Iran, focusing primarily on facilities in the Strait of Hormuz and carrying out limited attacks on infrastructure such as bridges and railways, in order to put pressure on Iran. Iran has responded by attacking U.S. targets in the region, including those in Jordan and Saudi Arabia, but has not yet directly attacked Israel.
Analysts point out that there is currently an undisclosed "red line" between the US and Iran: the US avoids large-scale attacks on Iran's core national infrastructure, while Iran avoids escalating the conflict to Israeli territory.
However, Israel may intervene directly if the following three scenarios occur:
• First, the United States is expanding the scope of its military operations. If the U.S. military attacks Iranian nuclear facilities or ballistic missile programs, including key targets such as Pickaxe Mountain that were previously unaffected, it could prompt Iran to expand the scope of its retaliation.
Second, the conflict could escalate due to miscalculations by both sides. A sudden action by either the United States, Iran, or Israel could break the current limited state of conflict.
Third, Israel actively seeks military opportunities to strike Iran's nuclear facilities and missile capabilities in order to achieve the goals that were not achieved in the previous "Roaring Lion" operation.
Meanwhile, Israel is intensifying its efforts to influence public opinion within the United States. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Israeli government recently invested over $45 million to improve public perception of Israeli policies in the US, including conducting public opinion campaigns using AI-generated text messages.
