US regulatory rules are clarifying the definition of "unsafe or unsound practices," potentially eliminating barriers to entry for crypto companies into banking.
According to BlockBeats, on August 28, crypto journalist Eleanor Terrett reported that the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) are advancing a rule to clarify the definition of "unsafe or unsound practices" in banking supervision.
It is understood that the term has long lacked a clear definition, giving bank inspectors considerable discretion. The new regulations will require regulators to link relevant determinations to actual illegal activities or significant financial risks, preventing pressure on banks to refuse legitimate clients (including crypto businesses) based on vague reputational or procedural reasons.
BitGo announces acquisition of NYDIG's institutional trading business.
According to an official announcement on August 28th, crypto custody company BitGo has reached a definitive agreement to acquire NYDIG's institutional trading business. This acquisition will add execution, derivatives, structured products, and funding capabilities, complementing BitGo's existing federally regulated custody, settlement, and wallet infrastructure. NYDIG's institutional trading business serves clients including asset management firms, hedge funds, corporations, and family offices.
