Iran reaffirms its "sovereign rights" over the Strait of Hormuz.
Odaily Planet Daily reports that Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Baghae stated that existing laws already cover Iran's "sovereign rights" in the Arabian Gulf, the Strait of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. Baghae said the Iranian Foreign Ministry will continue to cooperate with parliament to advance relevant legislation concerning Iran's rights in the region. He stated, "The Foreign Ministry always takes into account existing laws and practical realities. Parliament's position is clear and unambiguous in the constitution, and the Foreign Ministry believes it has an obligation to cooperate with parliament in all legislative processes." He added that the Iranian Foreign Ministry has previously provided professional opinions on relevant bills, and will provide further opinions if requested by members of parliament. (Jin Shi)
South Korean retail investors flock to leveraged ETFs for individual stocks, with brokerages and exchanges earning over 100 billion won in commissions over two months.
According to Odaily Planet Daily, since the listing of single-stock leveraged and inverse ETFs tracking Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the Korea Exchange and various brokerages have accumulated over 117 billion won in transaction fees over two months. Some argue that the influx of individual investors into these high-risk products has resulted in substantial fees for the exchange and brokerages providing trading intermediaries. Data obtained and submitted by the Financial Supervisory Service and the Korea Exchange on the 17th shows that from the listing of Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix-related single-stock leveraged and inverse ETFs on May 27th to the end of last month, the exchange and brokerages collected a total of 117.26 billion won in related fees, covering 16 products. On active trading days, the exchange's daily transaction fee revenue could exceed 1 billion won. Transaction fee revenue reached 1.051 billion won on June 24th and 1.011 billion won on May 14th.
Iran: Pakistan and Qatar are pushing for de-escalation; US-Iran negotiations have not yet begun.
According to BlockBeats, on August 17, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Bagaei stated that Pakistan and Qatar are making efforts to ease tensions, and there are currently no other mediators. He said that due to the United States' violation of the previously signed memorandum of understanding, Iran and the United States have not yet started any negotiations; the timeframe stipulated in the memorandum was for negotiations on lifting sanctions and the nuclear issue, and there is no so-called "60-day negotiation period."
Bagae stated that negotiations between Iran and Oman are ongoing, and both sides are carefully developing a map of maritime passage routes. Changxin Technology's stock price hit a new high since its listing, and its market value rose to about 2.5 times that of Kweichow Moutai.
According to BlockBeats, on August 17th, the share price of Changxin Technology (A-shares) surged, reaching a new high since its listing. At the close of trading that day, it was priced at 61.8 yuan per share, up 12%, with a current total market capitalization of 4.13 trillion yuan, making it the highest-valued stock in the A-share market, approximately 2.5 times that of Kweichow Moutai.
European stock markets opened higher in most areas, with technology and pharmaceutical stocks leading the gains.
European stocks mostly rose on Monday, after most major indices closed lower last week, with only the German DAX index hitting a record high. The Stoxx Europe 600 index rose 0.2%, led by technology and pharmaceutical stocks. SpaceX supplier STMicroelectronics rose 3%, while ASML and its smaller competitor ASM International rose 2.35% and 2.7% respectively. Dutch pharmaceutical company Argenx led the gains, rising about 7.7%, after reporting positive clinical trial results.
