METIS

Project Introduction

Metis is a fork of Optimism that aims to build on its currently more popular competitors.

Project Vision

The vision is to extend Ethereum and connect the Web 2.0 world with Web 3.0 so that the entire Web 3.0 world can be built on Ethereum with Metis Layer 2. To achieve this, we need: 1. A robust and scalable infrastructure; 2. An organizational structure that ADAPTS to decentralized collaboration.

Market Demand

Ethereum is currently the most developed and secure in terms of ecology and applications, so it is the focal point for Layer2 expansion. In addition, although the various Layer2 solutions are moving in the direction of improving usability, there will not be a single dominant situation, because the requirements of different scenarios will be different, so there are many future opportunities at Layer2.

Solution

Metis seeks to provide the standard benefits of Optimistic Rollups, such as low cost (< $1), high speed (less than a second), and Ethereum-level financial security. But beyond that, it plans to differentiate its platform by offering a more decentralized design, native data storage, faster withdrawals to the Layer 1 Ethereum main chain, and improved availability for DApp providers.

Project Implementation Mechanism

1. Everyone can publish an on-chain DAO or DAC, run and manage their own communities, applications, and enterprises, and Metis is the tool to do all of this. 2. Metis services are not limited to the DAO level, but have a standard module to measure everyone in the DAO, including wallets, RP's, various attributes, and basic Optimistic Governance (OG) mechanisms. When two people want to collaborate, Metis helps them establish connections and trust and perform detailed tasks. In addition to the functional advantages, there are also significant improvements in security: Metis is highly secure, all business activities are carried out on the side chain, and privacy is high and visible only to the participating collaborators. When a Layer-2 transaction is packaged and uploaded to Layer-1, game theory and Metis' additional Layer of permissions ensure the process is secure.

Token Usage Scenarios

1. Transaction fees -- Users pay transaction fees using Metis. 2. Pledge for DAC - DAC contributors must pledge Metis to become collators, participate in collaborations, or start a new MVM layer. Rewards -- DACs and Rangers were awarded Metis tokens for their contributions to the fraud challenge. These participants may also be penalized Metis for violations.

Characteristic

1. Highly decentralized -- Different from centralized Optimism, Metis has designed multiple virtual machine (multi-chain) support, Peer Nodes, Sequncer Pool and other mechanisms, and opened verification Nodes to the community. These decentralized measures will further improve the security of Rollup. Arbitrum and avoid the occurrence of downtime. 2 EVM equivalent - No changes are required to the existing smart contract. IPFS consolidation -- Faster validation of state changes published to Ethereum due to using Rangers than cheaper data storage options with ancillary solutions. 4 Polis Middleware - Provides templates and support for enhanced development environments for developers new to the crypto space. 5 Multiple execution layers - Metis will allow DAC to start a new MVM execution environment to expand capacity as block space requirements increase. 6 Licensing Environment - DAC can customize access control to its MVM instances

Project Highlights

Metis seeks to provide the standard benefits of Optimistic Rollups, such as low cost (< $1), high speed (less than a second), and Ethereum-level financial security. But beyond that, it plans to differentiate its platform by offering a more decentralized design, native data storage, faster withdrawals to the Layer 1 Ethereum main chain, and improved availability for DApp providers.

Incentive Mechanism

With the public beta line, community members (including ECOSYSTEM development program applicants) can create their own Layer 2 Dacs; Migrate assets (Metis tokens) from Layer 1 to Layer 2; Pledge on Layer 2 and earn yield farming rewards. The more users invited to join your DAC, the higher the mining power of your DAC, the more rewards you will get from the revenue farming bonus pool.

Competitors

1. More scalable. Multiple virtual machines and sequencer pools are supported to process transactions. Currently, other companies only support single virtual machines and sequencers. A practical example is that if an application has a large volume of business, they can apply for opening a separate Rollup chain. Currently, the problem that BSC and Polygon encounter with the increase of cost as the volume of business increases will not appear. Our architecture is designed for more scalable solutions. 2. Be more functional. The Polis and DAC microservices frameworks facilitate the extension suite. In the current product planning, various functional templates will be launched one after another, and the functions will continue to be enriched. 3. Efficiency. The Ranger system reduces extraction times from days or weeks to hours. 4. Self-sustainability. Support for DApps/communities to launch their own DAOs and tokens and have a cold start.

Points

Network effects are a major driver of on-chain transactions, with well-known competitors such as Optimism and Arbitrum, and Layer 1 with evolving ecosystems such as Solana and Terra, There are already large DeFi and Metaverse projects under construction or underway. ZK Rollups has also evolved rapidly from earlier Dapp-specific solutions such as Loopring and dYdX. Immutable plans to support the second game, making progress towards becoming a Metaverse ecosystem. ZkSync and StarkWare already have EVM-compatible ZK-Rollups in their test networks. The competition is just beginning, and Metis must deliver on its promise to improve the Optimistic Rollup experience with its proposed versatility and UX improvements. If Metis can successfully cultivate an app ecosystem through its token incentive program, it could generate the network effects necessary for the Layer 2 project to survive. The migration of developers and users from Web2 to Web3 is already underway and will only accelerate in the future, with the market likely to be large enough to accommodate every project. But projects and infrastructure that can distance themselves sufficiently from their nearest competitors will lead the next frontier of the Internet.

Project Risk

1. Risk of competition with other Layer2 projects. 2, the risk of insufficient promotion. 3. Rely on Ethereum to face competition from other high-performance public chains.

Values

At present, Layer2 is a hot track, and most of the products that have been released have not issued coins. Metis has taken the advantage of issuing coins, which will attract funds chasing Layer2. In addition, Metis itself has sucked back a large number of chips by washing the plates for a long time, holding a positive attitude. With the launch of the main network, Metis will be pledged and used as miners' fees, which will increase the demand for Metis. The future development is still worth looking forward to! Despite its many challenges, Metis still has huge advantages, and the next step is to focus on its ecological development, which is the key to the ultimate usefulness of the Metis public chain. The biggest problem of Layer2 is that the cost is still higher than other Layer1 side chains, and some Layer2 deposits and withdrawals take a long time. However, after the official version of ETH2.0, Layer2 will have a relatively large outbreak, and Layer1 side chains have no advantages.
